What People Say After the Work Is Done

The measure of a watch service is in the piece returned — how it runs, what's documented, and whether the owner understands what was done.

From the People Who Brought Their Watches In

AR

Brought in my grandfather's automatic — a piece I'd been carrying for years without knowing its service history. The intake was thorough. They photographed everything, wrote up exactly what they found, and called me before touching the case finish. It came back running better than I expected, and the documentation means I actually know what's been done to it now.

Had the water resistance service done on my dive reference before a trip to the islands. The written pressure test result that came with it was something I hadn't encountered with other workshops. It told me exactly what pressure was tested and what the result was. Small thing, but it made a real difference to my confidence wearing it in the water.

The turnaround on the overhaul took a little longer than the initial estimate — parts availability, apparently — but they called ahead and explained it without me needing to chase. The watch is running within spec again. I'd been tolerating a few seconds' drift per day for longer than I should have. The regulation was noticeably different when I got it back.

I was very specific about not wanting the dial touched on my vintage piece. They understood immediately and confirmed it before anything started. The dossier I received with the watch on collection was the most detailed documentation I've seen from any service I've put watches through. Genuinely useful for provenance purposes.

I've had three watches through here now — two overhauls and one water resistance service. Each time I get the same level of attention at intake. They don't treat the cheaper watch any differently. The location in Imbi is easy to reach from the MRT. I'll keep coming back.

Brought in a sport watch that hadn't been pressure tested since I got it. The service was straightforward and the result came back in writing. My main note would be that appointments book up a few weeks ahead — which I understand given the size of the practice, but worth knowing before you plan around a specific date.

CASE STUDIES

Three Service Journeys in Detail

CASE STUDY · MOVEMENT OVERHAUL

A Swiss Automatic Running Twenty Seconds Slow

THE SITUATION

A client brought in a Swiss automatic he wore daily. It had been running fifteen to twenty seconds slow per day for over a year. The watch had not been serviced in more than eight years and the service history was unknown.

THE WORK

Full movement disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, inspection under magnification — mainspring showed fatigue and was renewed. Pivot surfaces cleaned. Reassembled with correct lubrication and regulated across six positions. Multi-day observation followed before return.

THE OUTCOME

Watch returned running within +3/-2 seconds per day across positions. Client now has a written service record and knows when the next service interval falls. Timeline: five weeks from intake to collection.

"I didn't expect the level of explanation at intake — they actually went through what the wear pattern on the mainspring meant. That kind of transparency made a difference."

CASE STUDY · COLLECTOR & VINTAGE SERVICE

A 1960s Chronograph with an Unknown Service History

THE SITUATION

A collector acquired a 1960s Swiss chronograph at auction. The dial was original but the hands had been replaced at some point — replacements were period-adjacent but not factory. The movement was running inconsistently.

THE WORK

Extended intake consultation, photographic stage record, full overhaul following conservation principles. Original case surfaces retained without polishing. Replacement hands noted in the condition dossier. Period-correct hand options researched through specialist supply; client chose to retain existing replacements for now.

THE OUTCOME

Movement returned to consistent performance. Full written dossier including photographic sequence, parts notes, and assessment of current condition. Timeline: fifteen weeks due to parts research. Client has a clear record of what is original and what is not.

"The dossier alone was worth the service. I know exactly what I have now, and that information travels with the watch."

CASE STUDY · WATER RESISTANCE SERVICE

A Dive Watch Before a Recurring Liveaboard Trip

THE SITUATION

A client who dives regularly around Malaysian waters came in with a 300m sport watch. The watch was two and a half years past its last gasket renewal. He wanted confidence before a planned liveaboard trip, not just reassurance.

THE WORK

Case inspection, gasket renewal at all positions — case back, crown, and crystal seat. Dry pressure test first, followed by wet pressure test to 30 bar. All surfaces within specification. No distortion found on crown tube.

THE OUTCOME

Watch returned with written test result confirming pressure tested to 30 bar, wet, with pass result noted. Timeline: ten days. Client travelled with a document he could reference if needed.

"Having the result in writing changed how I thought about the service. It's not just a sticker — it's actual test data."
